Roadside Reminder has had another successful year at the Isle of man TT motorcycle races with are unique keep to the left road safety stickers.Gordon Edwards and his team at Isle of Man Road Safety gave our stickers out to TT Bike Visitors coming off the Steam Packet ferries on arrival in Douglas from their road safety caravan. With some of the first time TT foreign visitors needing a short explanation that the Keep LeftSticker part of the road safety card was for the top edge of their left wing mirror as a simple reminder for their motorbike, car or camper. Click here to buy our Roadside Reminder Keep Left Sticke >> As a driving tipit is the best Safety Advice to getting used to driving on the left as in the UK or driving on the right as in Europe and the USA and many countries in the rest of the World. Our Keep Left Stickerswere also available in the sea terminal with many foreign visitors picking them up from the Department of infrastructure desk helping themdrive safely. There were reports on Manx radio in the first few days of practice week of a Swiss tourist on the wrong side of the road at Quarterbridge in Douglas. It takes a lot of concentration at first to drive safely on the other side of the road to which you are used to without an aid and let’s face it you are on your holidays you should be relaxed not stressed!![]() Roadside Reminderalso make the stickers inItalian (mantener la sinistra)and as such I gave out a lot to those Italians I met and gave out Keep left in English stickers to the Spanish visitors. I met with one group of fifteen that were very appreciative & said 'keeping left' was on their mind a lot of the time coming out of side roads and petrol stations. The road safety team were also at the Ramsey Sprint and the grandstand giving out our stickers with Links Fahren, Links Houden, Tenez la Gauche (German, Dutch, French). It’s not just the close racing - the atmosphere is exciting with so much going on from dawn till dusk and long into the night with bike shows, rallies, the Purple Helmets, Motorcross Enduros, the Sprint shows on the Douglas prom and the Fun Fair. The list goes on.If you want an insight to the TT you have got to see the new TT film 'Closer to the Edge'. It is excellent. People come from far and wide to ride round the TT course. One of the main attractions is the mountain - part of the course is 'one way only', It has been like this for the last few years due to many head on accidents when it wasn’t one way and is a lot safer as a result. There are still accidents so you have to still be careful and not get carried away with it all. I can’t imagine the hassle having a accident let alone if you are a foreign visitor on your holiday, getting home etc. There seem to be more Links Fahren (drive left) signs around the TT course which is a help but the road safety team can’t put them everywhere that’s where Roadside Reminder keep left drive safely tip comes in. If we are to encourage people from Europe and other countries to the Isle of Man TT we should do as much as possible to make them comfortable with the switch to driving on the left. It also has the safety of local drivers in mind as it may be one of them involved in a accident with a foreign visitor on the wrong side of the road as it only takes a simple mistake. One of the other factors in this type of accident is that if something happens and a foreign visitor has to take avoiding action they tend to swerve to the right, which can compound the error coming into conflict with traffic driving on the left. With no accidents involving foreign visitors on the wrong side of the road at TT 2011 the stickers seem to be helping. This is the third year that we are involved with Isle of Man Road Safety. The Manx Grand Prix in August attracts many more foreign tourists and we hope for the same safe result. If you are off to Europe this summer - don't forget we also make are stickers for you Keep Right available at roadsidereminder.co.uk. |
